The goals of the master plan update are to:

1. Support commercial aviation and the regional economy now and in the future
2. Promote safe, efficient, and orderly development of aviation facilities
3. Evaluate the need for Nome Airport Relocation
4. Evaluate consolidation of Nome City Fields facilities and Nome Airport

During the process of updating the plan, we will assess airport safety, operational efficiency, current and forecasted development, land-use needs and leasing issues, transportation access, economic development, and local government concerns and goals.

Current and future needs of the facility will be identified. Improvements made since the master plan was last updated will be incorporated into the master plan and the airport layout plan.

DOT&PF contracted with PDC Inc. Engineers in August, 2009, to update the master plan. The process is expected to take 18 months, and be completed in December, 2010.
